Assa Makanika is a Tanzanian Politician and a Member of Parliament representing, North
Kigoma in the National Assembly. On August 2020 he joined political race through Tanzania
Revolution Party, commonly known as CCM a Swahili short form for ‘Chama Cha Mapinduzi’. After
stiff competition within the party, Assa Makanika was Nominated to be the party’s flag bearer
representing North Kigoma Constituency for the 2020 General Elections.
After two months of Political rallies and challenging competition between different Political
Parties, On 30th October, 2020 Mr. Assa Makanika won the majority votes and was officially
announced by National Electoral Commission (NEC) as the Member of Parliament Elect for North
Kigoma, Becoming the youngest member of Parliament elected at the age of 28. Assa was
officially sworn in on 10th November, at the Tanzania National Assembly Hall in Dodoma.

North Kigoma Constituency/Kigoma Rural District
North Kigoma Constituency is also known Administratively as Kigoma District Council. It is
among the Councils in Kigoma Region which was established in 1982. The Council covers area of
9,396 km2
(20.8% total Kigoma regional area) of which 1,204 km2
is covered with water mainly
Lake Tanganyika. The council borders with; Uvinza District in Southern part, Kasulu District in
Eastern part, Buhigwe District in Northern part and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and
Burundi Countries in the Western part. Administratively, Kigoma District Council is divided into
three Divisions, namely Mwandiga, Mahembe and Kalinzi, 16 Wards, 46 registered Villages and
212 Hamlets. The District Council is divided into two topographical zones – The high land and the
low land zones. Lake Tanganyika has positive influence on rainfall pattern and distribution.
